LVT and Laminate Flooring Oxfordshire

Lots of our customers ask us about their flooring options and are unsure as to which one to go for. Most of the time, they are undecided about which one to pick between Luxury Vinyl Tiles and Laminate. Both have their advantages and we are pretty good at fitting both products but we thought that we could help our customers decide with a little guide.....

LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile) and laminate flooring offer similar looks but differ in composition and performance. LVT is made from multiple PVC layers, while laminate is constructed from high-density fiberboard.

LVT is typically more durable, water-resistant, and suitable for high-traffic areas, while laminate can be more prone to damage from moisture and scratches.

Key Differences:

Material:

LVT is made from PVC (polyvinyl chloride) layers, while laminate is made from high-density fiberboard (HDF) with a plastic top layer.

Water Resistance:

LVT is generally more waterproof and suitable for bathrooms and kitchens, while laminate is water-resistant but can warp with prolonged moisture exposure.

Durability:

LVT is known for its durability and resistance to scratches and scuffs, while laminate is also durable but can be more susceptible to damage from impact and scratching.

Installation:

LVT can be glued or installed with a click-lock system, while laminate typically uses a snap-together click-lock system.

Underfoot Feel:

LVT can offer a softer, more comfortable underfoot feel than laminate, which can be more rigid.

Price:

LVT tends to be more expensive than laminate.

Which is right for you?:

LVT: Choose LVT for its durability, waterproof properties, and suitability for high-traffic areas like kitchens, bathrooms, or basements.

Laminate: Opt for laminate if you want a more affordable option, are primarily concerned with aesthetics, and the flooring will be in an area with less moisture exposure.

So which one wins? We are staying firmly on the fence as it depends of the needs and budget of the customer. There are some really high quality laminate products out there just as there are some very reasonably priced LVT solutions to choose from. Our team will be happy to guide youy through your options and help you make the best choice for you.
